If you need to do a factory reset on your device, or boot up into a custom recovery, then follow these steps to boot into the LG G4 recovery mode.
Android is a rather complex mobile operating system and there are multiple modes that come with it. As I showed you yesterday, one of the unique modes for Android is the LG G4 Safe Mode. With that mode you can disable 3rd party applications to help you to figure out if an app is causing problems or if it is caused by the core Android OS itself. Another mode that we can get into is the LG G4 Recovery Mode.
Recovery Mode for the LG G4 is much like it is for the LG G3 and it allows you to perform a factory reset to your device. Now, if you have a custom recovery installed then following this tutorial will boot you into the custom recovery that you have installed(whether that is TWRP, CWM, etcetera). To do any of this, you’ll need to follow the steps below and you’ll boot up into the recovery mode for your LG G4. You can easily exit out of the LG G4’s recovery mode so there’s no need to worry about getting stuck in Recovery Mode.
LG G4 Recovery Mode
- Power Down the LG G4
- When Off, Press and Hold the Volume Down and Power Buttons at the Same Time
- Continue Holding These Two Buttons Until You See the LG Logo
- When You See the LG Logo, Let Go of the Volume Down and Power Buttons for 1 Second
- After 1 Second has Passed, Immediately Start Holding the Power and Volume Down Buttons Again
- Continue Holding These Two Buttons Until You Boot Up into the LG G4 Recovery Mode
Explanation
So again, the stock LG G4 Recovery Mode is used for doing a factory data reset but if you have a custom recovery installed then this will be the way that you can boot up into TWRP, CWM or any other custom recovery that you have installed. To start, you’re going to need to power down the LG G4. Once the device is completely off, then you’ll want to press and hold both the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
Watch the display while you hold down these two buttons because as soon as you see the LG logo appear, immediately let go of these two buttons and count to 1. After that one quick second has passed, then you’ll need to immediately begin holding down those same buttons again(the Power button and Volume Down button) and this time continue holding them until you boot up into the LG G4 Recovery Mode. Once the Recovery Mode screen appears, then you can stop holding those two buttons down. You’ll need to use those three buttons to navigate through the menus here.
You’ll use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to control the highlighter/selector here and then you’ll use the Power button to select that option. So, if you want to reset then you’ll confirm it from this menu but if you want to reboot back into Android then just tell the LG G4 no and to exit the Recovery Mode. Sadly, there isn’t much else that you can do from the stock recovery mode so unless you have a custom recovery installed then you most likely just want to tell the LG G4 to exit and reboot back into Android.

The LG V30 is a powerful device and one couldn’t have unlocked the bootloader of it, but LG accidentally allowed people to unlock it. Having an unlocked bootloader means that the device can be flashed with a new recovery like TWRP which will help the users with rooting their LG V30.

Also, make sure to backup everything on the phone as there is a good chance that your phone will be wiped clean during following this procedure. Let’s get started with the main procedure and see how we can get TWRP on LG V30.
Procedure for Flashing TWRP Recovery on the LG V30
- After you have downloaded the TWRP image for LG V30 and the ADB Drivers, just move the TWRP image into the ADB folder.
- Assuming that you have already unlocked the bootloader of your LG V30, we will directly go ahead with the process of installing TWRP on your phone.
- Again, backup everything on your phone since it is going to be wiped after this procedure.
- Enable Developer Options, to do so: Go to Settings and go to About Phone. Tap the Build number 7-8 times and you will be able to access the Developer Settings now.
- Go to Developer Settings and turn on USB Debugging. Connect the phone to your PC using the stock USB cable.
- Now, open the folder where you have saved everything related to ADB and the TWRP image.
- Keep the SHIFT key on your PC keyboard pressed and meanwhile, right click on your mouse. You should see a context menu with an option that says Open Command/PowerShell window here.
- Click on that option and you will see that a command window opens up.
- In this command window, type:Â adb devices.
- Now, check your phone and click on “Allow.” As soon as you click Allow, you will see that the command window will show your phone with its device ID.
- After this, you need to enter the command:Â adb reboot bootloader
- The above mentioned command will reboot your LG V30 into the fastboot mode.
- In the command window, type in: fastboot flash recovery TWRP-3.2.1-joan-v0.2-treble.imgÂ
- This command will flash the TWRP recovery on your LG V30. But the procedure isn’t complete yet.
- READ THE FOLLOWING STEPS PROPERLY & FOLLOW THEM ACCORDINGLY.
- Disconnect your LG V30 from the PC.
- Hold the volume down button and the power button at the same time until you see the startup logo of the phone.
- As soon as you see the startup logo, release the power button while still keeping the volume down button pressed for a brief moment and then press the power button again. All this while keeping the volume down button pressed.
- The next screen on your phone that you will see will be white and you have to choose YES twice so that the phone’s current data is erased.
- After the erase process is complete, you will see the TWRP screen.
TWRP has now successfully been installed on your LG V30. But you still need to follow the below-given steps to complete the process.
- When you enter TWRP, make sure to make your system writable.
- You will need to turn the data encryption on your phone off. To do that, just enter TWRP and choose Wipe Data.
- Now go ahead and choose Factory Reset and then choose Format Partition.
This is all that you need to do in order to install TWRP on your LG V30. Make sure you have followed everything step by step else the procedure won’t be successful.
